Carrier frequencies and Hoyland sidebands

A carrier frequency is a higher-frequency signal that can be modulated by another signal. Modulation produces mathematically related components above and below the carrier — known as sidebands.

For example, a 3.100 MHz carrier modulated by 10 kHz can create components around 3.110 MHz and 3.090 MHz. Vary the modulation frequency and the sideband positions move with it.
